The biggest down right jackass thing is the enforced shunning. Think about the grandparents who have never seen their grandchildren, the mothers and fathers who are pushed away by their children, the children who are pushed away by their parents.
It's sickening.
I'd be the first to agree that there are a lot of kindhearted and well-meaning JWs. But they are active participants in an abusive religious system.
what do you think a witness would say when shown this quote, then the proof of the 1914, 1925 predictions?.
"true, there have been those in times past who predicted an "end to the world," even announcing a specific date.
yet nothing happened.
Most would just turn tail and run.
The ones who might try to address it, are the ones that are capable of jumping through mental hoops to such a hopeless degree that, well, you might as well forget it.
this is a forum of people seeking refuge from bullying, taunts, oppression and mind games.. how do you heal such wounds if your own brothers-in-banishment treat you with cold, heartless contempt?.
it doesn't cost any poster here one shiny penny to be respectful when disagreeing with their wounded comrades.. there is really just no excuse, in my opinion for getting personal.. .
personal means actually naming a person and referring to them in a way that provokes a defense on their part to a perceived insult.. a general statement such as "the rich" or "the poor" or "democrats" or "republicans" is quite different from a statement about "joe", "mary", "jose" or that places them in a disparaging context.. example: "republicans are racist" is quite different from "joe is racist.

If those statements are sexual in nature it is sexual harrassment. If the statements are about, family, finances, character or reputation instead--it remains harrassment.

It is a hostile act to call people out.
I guess I don't quite follow. For a male, esp a heterosexual one, to tell a woman that she looks good in the clothes she's in, or that she smells good, etc., yes, especially if the woman feels embarrassed or uncomfortable at the remark, i can see that. Butm saying, hey, your kids are looking great, or congrats on your nice new house/promotion at work/etc., - in what contexts would such compliments be harrassing?

I ask these questions with no hostility - just genuine curiosity and a desire to have my own thinking expanded.

while i could gleam ideas and thoughts, that kind of worked with the religion i once called home.
more often then not, i had to come to a extreme conclusion.
Not to defend this religion as it ever existed at any point in time but...
I joined the JWs in the early 1990s. Some things about JWism as it was at that time:
I think that I caught the very tail end of the JW era that started with Knorr - there was still some genuine enthusiasm among JWs in the early 90s. After Fred died and the Generations teaching was ditched, I could sense a cold change. By 2000, it seemed to me that the literature had become just microwave-heated leftovers and watered-down recyclings from the uniquely strange mind of Freddy Franz, and constant, increasingly shrill, cries for obedience and loyalty. It got to be absolutely unbearable, to me anyways.
It amazes me that the people I once knew are still on that treadmill, week after week, year after year. I about had a breakdown from it after being in just 10 years.

I thought tosh was funny the first couple of seasons, but I can't take a minute of it these days. He has one, I repeat, ONE joke: that black people are incredibly athletic and will kick your a$$, and white ppl are bad dancers.

The new sitcom with Elliot from scrubs and that guy who played Raymond's brother is painful to watch, as is modern family.
Married to a Jonas is the worst reality show. It's so bad, they don't even bother poking fun of it on The Soup (which is a great show).

did you notice them?.
I read 1984 in my later teen years, and was profoundly affected, and frankly terrified by it. I mean, it really scared me, the sheer, well, dystopian-nessof it all. I credit that book and the movie The Terminator with filling my youthful self with a paralyzing fear of the future.
JWs came along, and their version of the future seemed much better than Orwell's and Ahnold's. So I went all in on it.

as it turns out, according to watchtower as of now we need only take a look at 8 men of watchtower, and then ask and answer a question in order to be on the safe side.

They've out-bizarre'd themselves with this one. But, it is the WTS so no surprise.
So, who would determine if the slave was acting unfaithfully and thus as an evil slave? In the parable it's the master. So this seems to swing the door wide open to the idea that the WTS indeed could be acting as an evil slave and will be dealt with severely upon the master's return. But of course while the master is away the evil slave would tell the master's belongings that he is acting faithfully, but saying that wouldn't make it so.
